Even if you are not in Facebook, it’s possible that you might have seen in some sites a blue button that says Connect with Facebook. What this application does, is to provide a system for you to log (or Connect) into that site using your Facebook account. For example, Digg, the popular link submission site, will let you login and submit links using your Facebook credentials and you can even publish each link submission on your wall. Even if it’s one more OpenID or Google Friend Connect (which is not nearly as good in terms of functionality), it’s backed up by millions of user with carefully constructed identity profiles. Now that’s cool. So, how do we integrate Facebook Connect with our WordPress blog? once again, WordPress plugins come to the rescue.
BuddyPress 1.1 Beta has been officially released today but you should only use this version for testing purposes.
Andy Peatling reports at that the BuddyPress 1.1 will use only one theme for the home and member areas instead of the two that are currently required. Old themes will still work.

This new search engine named itpints claims to be a real-time search engine. It seems to accomplish this by searching through all the blogs, news, social bookmarks and networks, video and images. I have coded a Ubiquity command to receive instant results through it. Read more

Although there are specific softwares for social networks, WordPress MU, the multi user version of WordPress, has the potential to be transformed into a social platform. WordPress MU is what powers the WordPress.com blogs, handling millions of blogs so you can get an idea of its power. But WPMU doesn’t offer the social network functionality out of the box.
